Miriam Godoy Penteado's research interests are teacher education and collaboration between universities and schools with a focus on inclusive mathematics education. Together with Ole Skovsmose, she coordinates the Épura research group—including researchers, doctoral students, Master's students, and teachers—addressing a range of issues related to social inclusion-exclusion, considering the perspective of critical mathematics education. She has a degree in mathematics, a Master's degree in mathematics education, and a PhD in education at Universidade de Campinas (Unicamp). She completed her post-doc at the University of Bristol, and has been Associate Professor at Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), Campus Rio Claro, São Paulo, Brazil, since 1989. Currently her main activity is associated with the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education at Unesp, as volunteer researcher.

Ole Skovsmose

Ole Skovsmose has a special interest in critical mathematics education. He has investigated the notions of landscape of investigation, mathematics in action, students' foregrounds, and pedagogical imagination. He has been Professor at the Department of Education, Learning and Philosophy (now Department of Culture and Learning), Aalborg University, Denmark. Currently, he is associated with the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), Campus Rio Claro, São Paulo as volunteer researcher. Together with Miriam Godoy Penteado, he coordinates the Épura research group at Unesp. He has published several books including Towards a Philosophy of Critical Mathematics Education, Dialogue and Learning in Mathematics Education (together with Helle Alrø), Travelling Through Education, In Doubt, An Invitation to Critical Mathematics Education, Foregrounds, Critique as Uncertainty, and Connecting Humans with Equations (together with Ole Ravn). He completed his PhD in 1982 at the Royal Danish School of Educational Studies (mathematics education), and his Dr.Scient in 1995 at Aalborg University.
