Past Round Dances in Present Estonia

  • Sille Kapper (author)
The aim of this chapter is to discuss the meanings and functions of round dances in social and recreational contexts in Estonia and explore the way in which they gradually turned into a specific practice valued as local or national cultural heritage. It offers a short summary of the history of round dances in Estonia in order to provide context for the numerous possible interpretations of these dances in a contemporary society. Finally, it explores round dances and their meaning for multiple communities in the twentieth century.
