Chapter of: Long Narrative Songs from the Mongghul of Northeast Tibet: Texts in Mongghul, Chinese, and English(pp. 245–300)
The Crop-Planting Song describes the origins of agriculture amongst the Mongghul. It begins with humanity living in cold, hunger, and darkness, and then describes how the Buddha created the sun and moon, bestowed crops upon people, and taught them how to farm. In doing so, it also provides a map of the cosmos—the heavens and celestial bodies, Mount Sumeru, the earth and its regions, and so on.
