How we are using AI in our workflow

At OBP, we are integrating some AI tools to complement, not replace, human expertise in parts of our publishing processes. Currently, AI assists in specific areas like generating initial lists of index topics, drafting preliminary book blurbs, and creating alt-text for accessibility. However, human oversight remains essential at every step to ensure accuracy, quality and nuance.

In marketing, AI helps compile lists of relevant journals and societies, though we adjust our prompts to improve international representation. Our developers also use AI to streamline tasks like code generation, and we encourage transparency by asking authors to disclose their use of AI tools in research too.

We remain mindful of the ethical considerations, including the environmental impact of AI, its potential to perpetuate biases, and its effect on job displacement in creative fields.
