In Chapter Seven, Safa Achour emphasises the importance of the traditional heritage and morphology of the old town of Tunis. She examines the sustainability of this medina in terms of urban design and outdoor thermal comfort, providing urban planning recommendations for preserving its cultural heritage, social life and urban spaces.

Safa Achour is an architect with a master’s degree in architecture. As a doctoral student, she gained teaching experience at the University of Manouba in Tunis, Tunisia. Upon completing her doctorate of science in architecture with the highest honours in 2015, she continued teaching in addition to working as a researcher. In 2017, she was promoted to assistant professor at the National School of Architecture and Urbanism of Tunis, where she has also served as the director of studies since December 2020. In June 2023, she obtained her postdoctoral degree (habilitation) with accreditation to supervise research.
