3. The Urban Development of Si-ye Tir Street in Tehran

In Chapter Three, Maryam Mirzaei examines historical, architectural and urban development process in the Iranian capital of Tehran. She focuses specifically on Si-ye Tir, one of the city’s most historically significant streets, reflecting on its rich religious heritage encompassing Zoroastrian, Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions. Examining this heritage over time, she highlights the unique cohesiveness of this syncretic urban environment.

Maryam Mirzaei completed her bachelor’s degree in architecture at the South Tehran Branch of the Islamic Azad University in Iran. She also holds a master’s degree in the restoration and preservation of historical buildings from the University’s Central Branch. In addition to lecturing at various Iranian academic institutions, she works as an architect and interior designer for several engineering companies in Tehran. Her research focuses on the history of architecture and urban planning in Tehran, a subject on which she has lectured and written extensively, notably publishing several articles as well as a 2020 monograph on Tehran’s Si-ye Tir Street.
