Chapter of: Saki (H.H. Munro): Original and Uncollected Stories(pp. 51–54)
Two Austrian noblewomen, the Gräfin and the Baroness, are discussing their respective families. The Gräfin suggests that her reprobate son Wratislav could marry the Baroness’s dull and unattractive daughter Elsa. Despite some misgivings, the Baroness agrees. However, these plans are thwarted when Elsa runs away with another family’s chauffeur and Wratislav is forced to emigrate to Mexico because of some unspecified scandal.
