14. Existential Change

Lesson from Climate Change for Existential Risk

Chapter of: An Anthology of Global Risk(pp. 401–408)
Drawing on various research strands within Existential Risk Studies, this chapter argues that climate change, often overlooked in the field, is an important topic to consider when thinking about global risk. The authors offer a theoretical reflection on the important links climate change has to other areas of research, such as disaster risk management and environmental studies. Building on this, this chapter calls for the reframing of research questions within Existential Risk Studies, and sets out the rewards and co-benefits gained from responding to climate change risks.
