On Patience, Opportunities and Cooperation
Chapter of: ‘Fragile States’ in an Unequal World: The Role of the g7+ in International Diplomacy and Development Cooperation(pp. 56–85)
This chapter is about survival, and the life experiences that lead people to develop a profound respect for equality of opportunities. Most crucially, it is about those who not only survive those experiences but use them as an opportunity to do something, to help others. Survival leaves a deep feeling of commitment but also guilt, which can lead to someone going well above any job description and paying high personal costs to accomplish a mission.
