2. Etnos Thinking in the Long Twentieth Century

This chapter contextualizes the first appearance of ‘etnos’ as a principal object of research of ethnography as a discipline. It explores etnos from the end of the nineteenth century, right through to the present day. Here, etnos is examined in relation to its connections to both the development of Biosocial Science in Russia and to Soviet Marxism, and alongside wider concepts.
