ANZUS and the Early Cold War

This chapter analyses trilateral responses to the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Crisis as well as the conclusion of the South East Asian Treaty Organisation (SEATO). An examination into these developments reveals a similar trend of friction in the ANZUS relationship when US and British policies clashed with respect to defending Western bases in Southeast Asia, specifically in regards to the possibility of united action in the region.
