15 pages15. Learning to Taste the Emotions: The Mughal Rasika
Chapter of: Tellings and Texts: Music, Literature and Performance in North India (pp. 407–422)
Schofield provides the reader with a rich insight into Mughal connoisseurship in a context of cultural translation. She looks carefully at Persianate and Sanskritic aesthetic categories and courtly social contexts to demonstrate that Mughal patrons of Hindustani music appropriated the Indic notion of rasa to become sophisticated rasikas in a distinctively South Asian vein.
