1. Forever Wandering

The novel Gentayangan: Pilih Sendiri Petualangan Sepatu Merahmu [The Wandering: Choose Your Own Red-Shoes Adventure] by Intan Paramaditha is an adult “chose your own adventure.” The author is a writer, scholar, cultural critic, and activist. She was born in Indonesia, but received her PhD from New York University and is currently Senior Lecturer in Media and Film Studies at Macquarie University, Sydney. Written in second-person, the reader becomes the main character who is given a pair of red shoes that moves her from to place to place -- Jakarta, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Amsterdam, Tijuana, even outer space and fairytale lands. Time also shifts from the present to the past, the future and back. Each reading of the novel contains different possibilities and different stories; there is no final ending or home, only freedom through wandering.
