5. The Daily Work of Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning

Chapter 5 begins the Classroom section with an oral history of the day-to-day work of emergency remote teaching and learning – from lesson planning to assessment of both academic progress and wellbeing, to connecting with students and parents. Reference is made to Doris Santoro’s work on teachers who choose to leave the profession. This work delves into the notion of integrity and how threats to it can impel a teacher to give up. The teachers who participated in the study highlighted in this book, struggled with maintaining the integrity of teaching during ERTL in ways that are explored in detail in this chapter.
