Chapter of: Heroines of Greek and Roman Myth: An Intermediate Latin Reader (pp. 53–64)
The first section of this chapter is closely based on the scene in Apollonius Rhodius’s Argonautica wherein Medea and Jason visit Circe on Aeaea to seek ritual purification after stealing the golden fleece and murdering Medea’s brother, and so functions partially as a sequel to the previous chapter of the book. The second two sections recount Circe’s reception of Odysseus and his crew, as told from Circe’s perspective rather than Odysseus’s. The Latin text enables readers to review purpose clauses.
