4. Taking Ownership of Colonial Heritage in Casablanca

In Chapter Four, Nezha Alaoui addresses the design quality and sustainability of urban residential areas in Morocco, focusing on the legacy of colonial heritage in the metropolis of Casablanca. Nezha Alaoui obtained a PhD from the National School of Architecture of Rabat in 2022, and has held numerous professorships at both private and public universities. After earning her DENA architectural diploma in 2013, she founded the A.N. Architecture Agency. Her passion for her field has expanded within the office of renowned architect Zaha Hadid in London and the Atelier d’Urbanisme (APUR) in Paris. She has published numerous articles that have contributed to academic discourse in the fields of architecture, urban planning and design, and she has been invited by various public and private institutions to participate in and organise international symposiums and seminars. A passionate activist, she has spent years working to promote, protect and evaluate Moroccan heritage as a full member of the organisations Casa Mémoire and as a founding member of Rabat Salé Mémoire.
