Soufiane Essebbar analyses the key factors that have influenced architecture and urban planning in the country, arguing that the methods borrowed from French urban planning have generated a crisis of identity, cultural expression and efficiency in Moroccan cities.

Soufiane Essebbar is an architect and PhD candidate at the Centre of

Doctoral Studies of the National School of Architecture in Morocco,

where he obtained his DENA architectural diploma in 2015. As an

architectural practitioner in the private sector, he has worked on

numerous architectural and urban projects in national and international

contexts, including France, the United Kingdom, Germany and the

United Arab Emirates. His research interests include urban planning,

architectural regulations and exploring interdisciplinary intersections

between architecture, urban planning, history, politics and legal sciences.
